THE local authority has paved the way for a former Forfar primary school site to be developed for housing.
Wellbrae Primary School closed in the summer of 2007, after being replaced as part of a multi-million schools improvement programme which resulted in the erection of the new Whitehills Primary School and major revamps for Strathmore and Langlands schools.
The Wellbrae site is nestled between Wellbraehead and Victoria Street and, following the school closure, was declared surplus to requirements.
It went on the open market but attracted only the one declaration of interest.
And, at last week's meeting of Angus corporate services committee, members agreed to accept a £280,000 offer from Taylor Shepherd Homes, subject to the developer gaining planning permission for 12 residential properties on the site.
The committee also accepted a bid of £122,450 for another unused school, this time in rural Angus.
The successful bid for Pitkennedy Primary School, which was declared surplus to requirements by the council in 2008, following the merger with nearby Aberlemno School, came from R. S. Hill.
