A GROUP of friends are keen to commemorate the early retiral of Mike and Elena Visocchi and the contribution the couple have made to the town over many years.
For three generations over a period of 78 years the Visocchi family have run the legendary town-centre ice cream shop.
The cafe is now under new management, brothers Paul and Scott James having taken over the reins, although Michael is continuing
to offer his services on a consultancy basis.
"It is hoped customers past and present, will bestow a wee reminder of their appreciation in the form of a short note in the 'Book of Memories' which will be available in the café for the next few weeks," explains David Orr, secretary of the newly formed Kirriemuir Heritage Trust.
"The note should be along the lines of my own personal memories as follows:-
"It was great to take my grandson (when he was younger] for a 'teddy bear' cone of 'Peter Pan' ice cream, but now that he is all grown up (aged seven) it was brilliant to take my grandson (this year) for his first proper Knickerbocker Glory in the cafe - you should have seen his eyes when it arrived!
"We remember the patriotic Red, White and Blue ice cream Mike made for the Queen's visit to Kirrie!" Not to mention Mike's special - "Tally's Blood."
"So, we ask their friends to be inventive and add their own memories. Next time you go for a coffee or an ice cream, please jot down your reminiscences in our 'Book of Memories' and pass your contribution to the James brothers in the shop in the Square, who are happy to assist with our collection."
Mr Orr explains that presentation to Mike and Elena Visocchi, of with the 'Book of Memories' and a commemorative gift, will be arranged after a collection has been completed.
