MEMBERS of Forfar Community Council have stepped in to ensure the former Reid Park bowling green does not become an eyesore.
Last Sunday a team of volunteers visited the green to give the area a bit of a spruce up.

Chairman Mrs Isobel Ross, vice-chairman George Coghill, along with community councillors Freda Napier, Rena Innes, Barbara Munro and Ron Allan, rolled up th
eir sleeves once again and got stuck in to ensure the area is kept tidy.

They were accompanied by Ann Hattersley from Lordburn who volunteered her services after reading about the community councillors' plans in the Dispatch.

Mrs Ross's husband John was also on hand and carried out a litter pick up around the club house.

He also loaded up a trailer with the results of their labour - two black binsacks full of litter, three bags with bottles and cans and 23 bags of garden refuse, weeds shrub cuttings etc.

The bags were taken to the council skips at Queenswelll Road.

Mrs Ross said: "We started to clean up the Reid Park bowling green area and will be doing this on a regular basis, as long as necessary, to keep the area looking at least half decent.

"As time goes on the work will take shape and improve the appearance of the area within the vicinity of the Hillside Road entrance to the park."

The tidy up was completed in three and a half hours.

Thanks go to Craig Anderson of Angus Council environmental and consumer protection, who arranged with John Cormack to let the community councillors have a "Sharps Box" for the disposal of any needles - although this was not needed.

Mrs Ross added: "We would also like to say a hugh 'thank-you' to the residents of the Reid Park lodge house who very kindly supplied 'elevenses' by way of tea, coffee and biscuits - a lovely gesture and very much appreciated by all of us."
