A DEVOTED Forfar father and the daughter he gave a new lease of life to with a kidney donation six months ago are to lead a special celebration this weekend.
For parents John and Phyllis Carnegie, the event is a chance to share with family and friends the remarkable turnaround in health of their teenage daughter, Lauren, after a lifetime of kidney problems.

The family are also using the party as a fund-raising 'thank you' for the medical experts at Yorkhill Hospital in Glasgow who carried out the delicate operation, and Ronald McDonald House, which was 'home' for the pair in the weeks after the long-awaited surgery.

"Lauren was born with small kidneys and we knew she would require a transplant but we were lucky in the respect that she hadn't reached the stage where she required dialysis," said John.

"I know it is easy to say after the event, but to anyone who is faced with going ahead with something like this I would say to them that it is the best thing they could ever do."

Phyllis said the event this Sunday, July 13, in the Reid Hall, with local musician Steve Carcary and friends, was also an opportunity to say a huge 'thank you' to everyone who had supported the family over the last few months.

She said "Lauren enjoys a party and although we didn't want to have anything too soon, we are all looking forward to it.

"She really deserves it and we know she'll enjoy it. Although she's had all these problems she's never complained."

As part of the fund-raising efforts ahead of the event, the Carnegies have secured a Celtic top signed by many of the first team players, and is up for auction.

To date, the highest bid stands at £100, but if you want to top that then get in touch with Phyllis Carnegie (tel: 01307 466214) in the lead-up to the July 13 celebration.

The Carnegies would also like to acknowledge the support we have had from local business ventures, who have made donations and given prizes for the raffle which will take place in the Reid Hall.
