A KINGOLDRUM woman is hoping to encourage Kirriemuir residents to get "on the buses" later this month and support the local bus service which provides a life-line to the rural community.
However, Elspeth Hobson of the Old Manse in the village is hoping to turn the tables and invites residents of Kirriemuir to get on board to enjoy a day out to the countryside.
At the moment the bus service provided by JP Mini-coaches runs on a Tu
esday and a Friday.
In an attempt to drum up support to ensure its future, Elspeth will be serving morning coffees and lunches in Kingoldrum Hall for the day on Friday, May 30.
She said: "The bus service is really important for taking people in to Kirriemuir from Lintrathen and Kingoldrum, but we thought we would try it the other way round!
"We are hoping that elderly residents from Kirriemuir would board the bus at 10 a.m. in Bank Street Kirriemuir, and arrive here at 10.14.
"The bus travels up to Lintrathen and back down here again. They can either get off the bus or travel up to Lintrathen.
"We will be serving tea and scones in the morning.
"If the weather is good they could perhaps go for a walk or sit on the picnic benches, or we could organise games of dominoes and scrabble.
"I will be serving soup and rolls at lunchtime before they board the bus to head back to Kirriemuir at 1.30 p.m."
Elspeth and her husband moved into the Old Manse quite recently and held a successful sale of her late father's angling gear, which raised over £1,000 for Alzheimers.
There will be no charge for the refreshments served in the morning and at lunch-time on May 30, although donations for charity may be made.
Elspeth continued: "If it goes well then we will maybe organise these day trips once a month."
As the newly appointed chairman of the Kingoldrum Hall committee, Elspeth is also keen to promote a number of events which will be held over the coming months.
The first is a table top sale in the hall on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tables are priced at £5 and to book call Elspeth on 01575 572846.
There will be a duck race on Sunday, June 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., a treasure hunt on August 3 and a flower and produce sale on Saturday, September 6.
Further details on any of the events are available from www.kingoldrumhall.org.uk
