Local shop helps climate

A FORFAR business is doing its bit to help the environment during Climate Week.

The North Street Chip Shop, which strives to operate in as environmentally friendly a way as possible, is showing its support to the national campaign.

Owner Stuart Atkinson said: “North Street Chip Shop is doing its bit to help prevent climate change. We use the latest high efficiency fryers that run at up to 94 per cent efficiency and are Carbon Trust approved.

“Our modern refrigeration equipment has 24 hour temperature monitoring to ensure optimum running resulting in lower carbon emissions without compromising food safety.

“Our large illuminated window sign is now timer controlled, again to reduce our carbon emissions.”

But it’s not just during Climate Week that the shop is striving to help the environment, Stuart and his staff always make sure to do the best they can all year round.

Stuart added: “North Street Chip Shop is a Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) signatory.

“In the past 12 months, we have reduced our waste going to landfill by 50 per cent.”

He continued:”All our waste is recycled into bio diesel and the forks and napkins we provide are made from recycled material and are fully compostable.”

Climate Week runs from March 4 to 11.
