IN RESPONSE to a visit in November by a representative of ‘Save the Children Fund’, two primary six classes from Chapelpark made a great deal of effort and succeeded in producing four knitted blankets with each blanket made up of over 150 individually knitted squares. The blankets are destined for Poland to help children in need.

CONSTABLE James Mowatt retired from the police after 26 and a half years of service. He was stationed at both the Forfar and Arbroath offices and is a native of Edzell. To mark his retirement he was presented with a cheque on behalf of his colleagues in the Eastern Division of Tayside Police by Chief Inspector Sandy Cook.

TAYSIDE motor parts firm D&A Factors have handed over a £812 cheque to the special baby care unit at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

The firm, which has a branch in Forfar, raised the cash by staging a charity football match in Forfar last October.

ANGUS District Council’s policy and resources committee agreed to award a £350 grant to the Tayside Special Olympics Group. The cash will assist the group to meet the cost of sending the group away to the British Special Olympics in Sheffield later this year.

TAYSIDE Police will have the authority to issue on the spot tickets to offending motorists as of April 1. In the past, the matter was always referred to the procurator fiscal.

LOCAL teenager Tracy Dryburgh is to head stateside for her gap break experience. Tracy, who works part-time at Kirriemuir’s Wendyhouse Nursery, is going to St Louis to work as a teacher’s assistant at a home for disadvantage children.

She is set to be away for six months on the trip and on her return Tracy will undertake an HNC in Childcare and Education at Dundee College.

FORFAR Academy pupil Stuart Conley recently represented the school in the Tayside Schools Gala, and won a silver medal in the 100m backstroke.

Stuart has been swimming with the Forfar Falcons for five years and competes in local competitions where he as won countless medals for his achievements.
