KEEP YOUNGSTERS OFF THE STREET AT 'FORFAR NORTH' SCHOOL

Sir, I would like to express my disgust at the fact Wellbrae School seems to have been sold off for a paltry £260,000 to a developer who is to allegedly build 16 houses.

This sum would hardly buy one house these days.

Further to this, I attended an absolutely terrific show at the Reid Hall recently run by Showcase - the Street.

The hall was packed and a huge number of youngsters from all over Angus danced their hearts out giving the audience a great time.

The organisation of it, all run by volunteers, was first class and the amount of help and time given by the volunteers was acknowledged.

There are four junior classes and four senior classes in Forfar, so the girls were on eight times throughout the evening.

I know they are looking for accommodation so just for once could Angus Council not just give them the use of this school building for perhaps a period of two/three years and see how it goes rather than try and make a measly 260,000 out of it which will make very little difference to the running of Angus Council when, it must be said, money is wasted on other things!

Keeping youngsters off the street, taking exercise, being enthusiastic and keen in what they are doing is surely a priority at the moment in this town and others where there are problems of alcohol and drugs.

I am sure the people of Forfar would wholeheartedly support this as "Forfar North" is held in great regard.

Yours etc.,

A former pupil.
