IT'S ALL GONE QUIET ON KIRRIE FRONT!

Sir, Can it be me but is the silence relating to the future of Kirriemuir so deafening as to be inaudible?

Such a furore over the potential shops and jobs, yet now nothing.

Is it possible we have once again been forgotten after having had our fifteen minutes of notoriety, and have to disappear like the village in Brigadoon.

I realise in times of austerity when public spending has to reduced it is essential that we encourage the private sector to provide the jobs and prosperity of the future.

However, I have always been frustrated by the authorities' absolute belief in planning policies when applied to one area, while falling over themselves to amend and change such policies when applied to other parts of the district, and indeed individuals or corporate units.

I always understood that, in order to preserve the central area of Forfar, any planning consent for St James Road would not allow for retail shopping.

So why would such a store as Asda be at all interested in the site?

Such a proposal would indeed materially affect Forfar and environs.

Can it be that two parking places a play park, and a footpath to nowhere is enough to see us for another hundred years?

Yours et.,

Alan Bell,

Roods,

Kirriemuir.
